For families travelling with children, a map can be more than a guide—it can be the start of a grand adventure. A well-designed, family-friendly hotel map helps kids make sense of their surroundings and reframes getting around the hotel as a journey of discovery.

Across our kids’ activity books, we’ve designed maps at different scales, each serving a distinct purpose in the family guest journey. Together, the following examples show how maps can gently guide families from on-property discovery to destination exploration.

1 - Hotel Floor-Level Map: Perfect for City Hotels

In a large city hotel like Hilton Singapore Orchard, a single floor can pack in a lot of activity. Level five acts as the heart of the hotel, bringing together restaurants, cafés, the check-in counters and the swimming pool. To help families navigate this bustling space comfortably, we created a floor-level map that clearly presents everything in a child-friendly format.

To make exploring more enjoyable, we included a simple scavenger hunt that encourages kids to look for different light fixtures and standing lamps around the floor. Instead of just moving from one place to another, families are invited to slow down, look around and discover the space together—turning an indoor level into an experience kids can enjoy and remember.

2 - Resort-Level Map: Turning the Property into an Adventure Zone

At a sprawling beach resort like Shangri-La Rasa Sentosa, the property itself is big part of the holiday experience. With so much ground to cover, we designed a resort-level map that helps families see the entire resort as one big adventure zone—easy to understand, fun to explore and full of things to look forward to.

Our vibrant map showcases exciting spots that kids absolutely love, like the indoor playground, kids’ club, swimming pools, the beach, restaurants, and nearby playgrounds just outside the resort. To make exploring even more fun, we've added the resort's mascots, turning navigation into a delightful storytelling journey. The map invites children to follow familiar characters as they explore, helping the resort feel less overwhelming and more like a world crafted just for them.

3 - Neighbourhood-Level Map: Extending the Story Beyond the Hotel

For The Fullerton Hotel Singapore and The Fullerton Bay Hotel Singapore, we created a neighbourhood-level map that invites families to step outside the hotel and explore the story-rich surroundings of the Fullerton Heritage Precinct. This area is made up of closely connected heritage buildings and landmarks that once marked the original sea landing points for travellers arriving in Singapore.

The map highlights how these historically significant sites sit within easy walking distance of one another, including the iconic Merlion. To make exploration more engaging for children, we included the hotels' adorable mascots, Robby and Lizzy, as companions on the journey. Rather than feeling like a history lesson, the map turns the neighbourhood into an open-air discovery trail—helping families understand the past, see how everything connects and feel confident exploring together.

4 - Island-Level Map: Big-Picture Wonder for Curious Minds

For The Barracks Hotel Sentosa, we designed an island-level map that helps children see Sentosa as more than just a resort destination—but as a place with layers of history and transformation. The map zooms out to show the whole of Sentosa Island, charting its past as a colonial military outpost filled with forts and barracks, alongside its present-day role as one of Singapore’s most iconic leisure destinations.

Landmarks from Sentosa’s military heritage sit side by side with modern attractions like Universal Studios Singapore and the Singapore Oceanarium, helping kids understand how the island has evolved over time. Guiding the journey is the hotel’s mascot, William the Bear—a self-professed history buff—who adds personality to the map. Rather than focusing on navigation, the map sparks curiosity, context and conversation, giving young guests a big-picture view of the island they’re exploring.

5 - Gamified Property Map: Encouraging Exploration Through Play

With Piqolo World, we take the idea of a property map one step further—turning it into a playful, interactive experience. Created for W Singapore, the gamified map is a web app where guests explore the property through an avatar, moving between different points of interest across the hotel.

As users interact with objects and even hotel staff within the map, they unlock AR experiences and fun web-based mini games tied to each specific location. This transforms exploration into play, encouraging guests—especially families and teens—to actively discover more of the property rather than passively navigate it. The gamified map invites curiosity and interaction, making the hotel itself feel like a game waiting to be explored.

Bringing It All Together: Maps That Spark Discovery

When designed thoughtfully, family-friendly hotel maps become more than tools for getting around—they become invitations to discover and be part of a bigger story. They encourage children to notice details, spot new places and see their surroundings as something to explore rather than simply move through.

By using maps at different scales and adding simple storytelling or playful details, allows hotels to reframe navigation as discovery. Instead of just moving from one spot to another, families are invited to notice, explore and create their own memories along the way.
