Creating the Junior Marine Conservationist Handbook for S.E.A. Aquarium was a chance to blend storytelling, exploration and purpose into one immersive kids’ activity book. Every page was carefully adapted and localised to spotlight the aquarium’s unique marine residents, signature experiences and powerful conservation mission.
The handbook features iconic species from the aquarium's habitats and incorporates real initiatives led by the S.E.A. Aquarium’s conservation team. The content is designed to help young visitors connect deeply with the ocean world around them and to inspire them to become future guardians of our seas.

Here are examples of how we applied our key storytelling building blocks in this custom kids activity book to highlight the unique identity of the tourist attraction:
Champion Sustainability and Social Responsibility
To make complex ocean concepts accessible and exciting for young learners, we introduced our in-house comic characters — Peppy and Lili, two curious alien explorers on a mission to understand Earth’s blue planet. Their journey begins with a lively four-page comic where they are greeted by Manja the Reef Manta Ray, the aquarium’s beloved mascot, who becomes their friendly guide through the wonders of the ocean. Together, they discover the five main oceans, meet different kinds of marine life, and learn how the ocean supports life on Earth.
This story-led introduction sets the stage for a series of creative, interactive activities that help kids explore real-world ocean challenges, from pollution to habitat loss, in a way that feels fun, empowering and easy to grasp.
To deepen the educational value of the handbook, we wove essential ocean conservation concepts — such as unsustainable fishing, microplastics and global warming — directly into the activities. Through puzzles, drawing prompts, I spy challenges and short reflection tasks, kids learn how these threats impact marine ecosystems and why awareness (and action) matters.
Each activity is designed to spark curiosity rather than fear, helping young readers understand the issues in an age-appropriate way while empowering them with simple actions they can take to protect the ocean. Everyone can play a part in helping to conserve the ocean and it's inhabitants.

Define the Guest Experience and Journey
To encourage deeper exploration around the aquarium, we highlighted iconic marine animals found in each key habitat — from the graceful Zebra Shark in the Shipwrecked! zone to the cheerful Blue Tang in the Open Ocean Habitat. Each feature comes with its own kid-friendly audio clip filled with fun facts, accessible through a simple QR code scan, creating an interactive learning moment right on-site.
To enhance the adventure, we have also designed a playful scavenger hunt that encourages kids to search for different animals throughout the aquarium, transforming their visit into a discovery-filled journey.
Enhancing Accessibility with a Mandarin-Language Version
To better serve the growing number of Chinese visitors at the aquarium, we also created a full Mandarin-language edition of the Junior Marine Conservationist Handbook. This version preserves the same engaging activities, characters and conservation-focused messaging while making the content more accessible and meaningful for Mandarin-speaking families.
