In family-friendly hotels, storytelling has become essential rather than just a nice-to-have. It plays a powerful role in how young guests engage with the hotel, its spaces and the memories they take home.
This is where mascots play a crucial role. When thoughtfully designed and purposefully integrated, mascots help translate a hotel’s story into experiences children can easily relate to. Acting as familiar guides and companions, they create a sense of continuity across spaces, touchpoints and family-friendly collaterals —helping young guests experience the hotel as a connected story rather than a collection of separate encounters.
Why Hotel Mascots Are So Effective

- They create an instant emotional connection: Children connect with characters more quickly than with brands. A mascot gives the hotel a friendly face that feels approachable and familiar.
- They transform the hotel into a story world: A mascot can link activities to real locations, amenities and experiences, encouraging exploration.
- They reinforce brand identity in a child-friendly way: Mascots can communicate a hotel’s values, heritage or setting in a way that children can easily understand.
- They extend engagement beyond the stay: When kids remember the mascot, they also remember the hotel—often long after they have checked out.
How to Bring Hotel Stories to Life with Mascots
At Piqolo Press, hotel mascots are designed or adapted to do more than entertain. They guide, explain and connect—turning kids’ activity books into story-driven experiences that reflect each hotel’s unique character and create lasting emotional connections for families.
1 - A Character-Led Journey Through Hotel Guest Experiences

For Mandarin Oriental Singapore, the Piqolo Press team designed the kids’ activity book as a story-led journey guided by the hotel’s beloved mascot, Raja the Lion. Rather than presenting activities in isolation, the book follows Raja as he experiences different moments within the hotel and its surroundings—inviting young guests to discover the property alongside him.
For example, through playful storytelling, Raja explores experiences such as enjoying local dishes found at the hotel’s all-day dining restaurant, embu. By seeing Raja try and enjoy these foods first, children are gently encouraged to do the same, turning dining into a moment of curiosity rather than hesitation. The result is an activity book that connects storytelling with real experiences—helping children feel more familiar and excited about engaging with the hotel during their stay.

2 - Strengthening Hotel Identity Through Mascot Storytelling

At The Fullerton Bay Hotel Singapore, the kids’ activity book was designed as a direct extension of the hotel’s maritime heritage and waterfront identity. The hotel’s main mascots—Co-Captains Robby and Lizzy, two ship captains—were woven throughout the book as guides, inviting young guests to explore a world of seafaring and nautical-themed activities.
Each activity reinforces the hotel’s story and setting at Clifford Pier, once the primary landing point for travellers arriving in old Singapore. By anchoring puzzles, illustrations and creative tasks in maritime themes, the book helps children understand where they are and why the place matters. Through Robby and Lizzy, the activity book transforms brand heritage into playful discovery—strengthening the hotel’s identity while creating a meaningful, place-based experience for families.

3 - Bringing a Brand Ambassador to Life Through Character-Led Design

At The Capitol Kempinski Hotel Singapore, the iconic Lady in Red—Kempinski’s global symbol of warm and attentive hospitality—was thoughtfully reimagined for young guests through the kids’ activity book. Rather than taking centre stage, the character is subtly woven throughout the pages as a calm, reassuring presence -always nearby, quietly helpful and consistently welcoming.
Through gentle appearances and narrative cues, the Lady in Red reminds children of the hotel’s caring spirit and sense of trust, mirroring the real-life experience guests encounter on property. By translating this brand ambassador into a child-friendly storytelling role, the activity book reinforces Kempinski’s hospitality values in a way that feels natural, reassuring and emotionally resonant for families.

4 - Integrating Famous Licensed Characters into Local Hotel Storytelling

For Sofitel Singapore Sentosa Resort & Spa, we thoughtfully incorporated Le Petit Prince, Sofitel’s globally licensed mascot, into the kids’ activity book as a bridge between French heritage and local storytelling. While preserving the character’s timeless spirit and literary charm, we adapted his journey to reflect the resort’s tropical setting and Singaporean context—allowing young guests to experience a familiar icon in a place-specific way.

Woven throughout the book, Le Petit Prince guides children through activities that subtly reflect both Sofitel’s French roots and the unique environment of Sentosa. The result is a character-led experience that feels authentic to the brand while remaining deeply connected to place—reinforcing Sofitel’s identity through storytelling that is elegant, immersive and meaningful for families.

5 - Building Seasonal Narratives That Flow from Physical Space to Page

For the Christmas 2025 edition at Marina Bay Sands, we brought the hotel’s festive storytelling to life by thoughtfully integrating both its main mascot, Rori the Lion, and seasonal guest character, Noel the Nutcracker Butler, into the kids’ activity book.
While Noel the Nutcracker Butler appeared prominently across the hotel’s physical décor, the printed book extended this festive world by featuring Noel within the activities themselves. Rori the Lion, the hotel’s main mascot, takes on the role of the friendly guide—leading young guests through the book, introducing festive moments and connecting the pages back to what children see around the property. Together, Rori and Noel create a cohesive, character-led story that links décor, place and play into one seamless Christmas experience.

6 - Bridging Physical and Digital Guest Touchpoints Using Augmented Reality (AR)

At Shangri-La Rasa Sentosa, Singapore, we at Piqolo Labs extended the hotel’s beloved mascots, Toots and Daria, into the augmented reality (AR) realm. Building on the familiarity children already had with the characters in print, we developed playful AR lenses that allow guests to interact with Toots and Daria in real time—posing for selfies, engaging with animations and sharing moments from their stay.
